ACAD has lots of fun courses just for teens ages 13 to 16. Learn from professional artists + designers who enjoy helping young people explore their creativity. We provide an open and supportive environment for you to try new creative activities, explore your own unique ideas, and learn through hands-on techniques.
People 17 years of age are welcome to register for adult classes with permission from a parent.

Spring SATURDAY SAMPLER series NEW
Our Saturday Sampler Series for teens will give you a taste of learning, ACAD style. This is an ideal way to have a nibble before biting into a longer course. You'll be amazed how much you can make in just a few hours. Supplies and materials are included!
FIGURE IN CLAY WORKSHOP
INSTRUCTOR Jackie Bagley
Learn proper proportions of the figure, and how to work three dimensionally. You will develop your understanding of both additive and subtractive processes as you work from a live model and sculpt a figure. Materials and tools are provided.

Start and finish a painting in three hours or less! Learn how to properly mix paints to get the colours you want (not something that’s close) and how to use a palette knife to create rich impasto surfaces. Materials and tools are provided.

BAND RING WORKSHOP
INSTRUCTOR Adam Lagace
Make a ring from a flat piece of metal in no time. Learn how to take proper measurements, cut, file, and shape metal with simple tools. You will also get introduced to using a torch to solder it together. Materials and tools are provided.

PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
INSTRUCTOR Stacey Watson
You don’t need a digital camera to create interesting photographs; all you really need is a light tight box and some light-sensitive paper. Learn how to make your own pinhole camera and the basics of camera operations and exposure. You’ll get into the darkroom to process your photographs and learn some darkroom processes.

ARTS + ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOP
INSTRUCTOR Jennifer Bassett
Learn the basic elements of architecture through the process of art making while you gain an understanding of how design principles are used in both areas. You will be introduced to various representations in architecture; including architectural plans, sections, and elevations, as you work in a repetitive process, creating an abstract drawing of an object. Tools are provided.

DRAWING LIKE THE MASTERS WORKSHOP

Learn a variety of mark making techniques, as you use an assortment of art materials that will get you drawing like the masters. You will work from pictures and life as you practice techniques and complete a drawing. Materials and tools are provided.

Focus on improving your drawing skills while you experiment with different types of drawing media including graphite, charcoal, and conte crayons. You will continue to improve your understanding of the art elements and principles as you focus on composition and a variety of drawing techniques. Need some help with preparing your portfolio? Our College prep courses are for young adults who are not quite ready to jump into a degree program but thinking about it.
INSTRUCTOR Brita Thomas
Work hard to strengthen and build your portfolio in this intensive portfolio prep course. The focus will be on creating five works strong enough for portfolio submission for acceptance into ACAD, with an emphasis on observational drawing. Subject matter will include still life, landscape, the human figure, and portraiture. Get your creative juices flowing and your hands moving! Please see your course supply list online.
